The European Psylliumis dark brown in contrast to the Indian until black and more long-grained. It is mainly cultivated in the south of France. The black Psylliumfrom the plantago afra contains a little more fibre than the Indian psyllium and has a slightly higher source number. In addition, it has a discreetly aromatic taste of its own while the yellow Psylliumfrom India is almost tasteless.

The European Psylliumis suitable as an ingredient in muesli or smoothies and can be used in bakery products. It swells best in water or juice.
